Our version of this song is actually a cover of a cover. Originally, the song was recorded by The Kinks, but we heard it from the Black Keys.
The way we play this song makes it one of the first more technically challenging songs that we started playing in public, at least for me. The fingerpicking rhythm is fast and was really difficult for me to sing and play, but man was it fun to perform. For the longest time, Jeff played rhythm and sang the melody. The crowd always seemed to like , even in the typical open mic environment. Lucky for us, I found a recording that I filmed at the Old Mill Pub. It can't be too much later than June of '14. I used my bar glass to prop my phone, which amazingly gets in the way for the whole clip.
(video's a bit rough for me to embed right now. if anyone knows how through html 5 and google sites, let me know?)
Here's another short video from The Sarah Street Grill. It's probably a month or so later than the first one, and we're clearly more practiced (even though we screw up a bit at the end)
(video...)
We eventually tuned our guitars a half step down, which helped me to reach some of the higher notes. Jeff found some pretty sweet harmonies, too, so after we practiced with the new configuration, we started playing it in a new way. Jeff is on rhythm and harmonies. I'm playing lead and singing the melody.
We hope you like it.
