First Times

For this song, we've got a good record of the process. The audio file here is for all intents and purposes our first draft. Jeff already had a fairly polished rhythm and melody, but this was my first stab at filling in the edges with a lead guitar. One can hear the hiccups and imperfections really clearly.

Jeff is on rhythm and melody. I'm on lead.

(this file's been lost. I'm working on finding it)

It's far from perfect, but I think the framing is pretty solid. It really just needs a little polish. So on this next track, one can hear little additions to the lead guitar solo. Also, I'm beginning to sing some harmonies, and they're audible in the background. Quiet, but they're there.

Jeff is again doing the vocals and rhythm. I'm on harmonies and lead guitar.

(this one, too)

I think it's neat to hear the changes from the first to second draft. There isn't as much empty space, and that weird bluesy fill from the first recording is gone, which I think fits an awful lot better for the song.

So here is our 'finished' one. Who knows if they're ever actually done, but for the time being, it's the way we're playing it. It's got a little surprise at the end. We added a whole new piece that (I think) is pretty sweet.

Enjoy. Jeff is on melody and rhythm. Jerry is singing harmonies and playing the lead.

First Times
it was the first time that i ever saw you
it was the first time that i fell in lovebut just like every first time, there's a second time to comethe second time will be the one
i was sitting 'round, soaked in my self doubt'til i got tired of feeling sorry for myselfit wasn't 'til then i realizedmy troubles and my woesare nothing more than stepping stones.
