After a grueling week of drinking and hanging out, Jeff has returned to New Hampshire, and I'm here in Stroudsburg. In a show of tremendous commitment, Jeff has graciously penned (inked, typed, internetted?) the following write up for our next cover song, Party Lights, originally by Claudine Clark. It was popular in Philadelphia in 1962, but we think it's pretty appropriate for 2015.
From Jeff:
Here's a rock and roll pop tune originally by claudine clark that I heard covered by an indie chick duet that I like. It's so irresistibly poppy and fun and simple to play that we just couldn't refuse.
It fast became one of our favorites to play since we began exploring bluebirds more seriously. Here's a video of us playing at the Bethlehem hookah turka at our debut open mic night. I believe that night we signed up as "jerfy and jerfy sing the classics." It seemed like the supportive audience there was waiting for a solo towards the end, but we never delivered. Not because we can't, but because we keep you on your toes...(From Jerry: I was super scared in this video. We had practiced a lot, but stage fright is a son of a bitch)
(it's been enough getting audio to work...the video will be forthcoming)
It may not sound like it, but it's changed a lot to where it is today. It's a super fun song to play and sing, and it's been a favorite of ours for quite some time. Here's another version from sometime shortly after that first performance at Hookah Turka.
Here's another vid, just for shits and giggles. This one is at The Sarah Street Grill, probably sometime in July. The music stand that hides my hand is deliberate because I'm not really playing the solo. It was overdubbed from someone else (who will remain nameless).
(likewise..)
And this is the one that we put together from far away. I play rhythm and sing the melody while jerry throws in a lick here and there and sings some harmonies.
Thanks for listening.
