The Creative Process

The two of us live about 350 miles apart. One lives in Stroudsburg, PA and the other currently resides in Laconia, NH. While obviously prohibitive to traditional practice environments, we found a way to use Garageband in conjunction with an iPhone, iPad, and MacBook Pro to independently record the tracks for each tune. After sending things back and forth and eventually choosing 'finished' tracks, we edit them, tweak levels, and add effects through GarageBand.

My 'recording studio'.

While the process is far from groundbreaking or original, neither of us has had any real experience with the process, and it has presented a series of challenges. Issues of timing, varied tonality in our guitars and voices, non-standardized guitar levels, and recording into our devices have equally challenged and frustrated us. But that is not to say that these challenges have not come with equivalent rewards. Each hiccup in the process has produced a situation in which we've grown as musicians, both technically and creatively.

The pictures on this page are of our 'recording studios'.

Stroudsburg, PA

This photo is of my kitchen in Stroudsburg. All the elements of the domestic space were preserved to maintain an authentic representation of my natural habitat. The oranges are for my daughter's U10 soccer team. The bourbon, of course, is for her and her teammates as well.

Laconia, NH

Having recently become enamored with Henry David Thoreau, Jeff maintains a studio with only the barest of essentials. Clearly, Mr. Thoreau has smiled on his protege's efforts and commemorated the event by photobombing as a ball of radiant light. Much like the early morning sun implies an infinity of possibilities, Mr. Thoreau is warmly endorsing us as we disembark on this creative hike through the woods.
